Today I leave for the hunting grounds to meet up with my brother and the Dima's for a good old fashioned deer and elk hunt! I'll be camping on their 280 acre property and accompany them as they chase down Bambi. I have completed the work on the motorcycle and it runs and the bags are packed. Each pannier has 35lbs of spare parts, tools, oil, etc. The duffel bag has a sleeping bag, tent, air mattress, and warm and cold weather gear. The whole set up is about 110+ lbs. The amount of weight on the bike is making it hard for the bike to sit on the kickstand. Melissa had to have her kickstand cut about an inch short and welded a larger plate to the bottom for unstable ground. Ill need to find a welding shop in-route to have the same thing done to my bike. Tracy took some good pictures of the departure.
On the ride to White Bird I stopped into Pullman, WA home of the WSU Cougars to pick up some stickers for my panniers, have a chat with my old cabinet maker bosses and grab a calzone at Sella's (so yummy). I ended up getting to the hunting grounds after dark and missed my turn off by about 6 miles. Luckily Travis and Jed heard me driving up the mountain and guided me to the right road. Jed made some amazing venison stroganoff and after a few beers... and maybe a little whiskey we hit the hay for a early morning hunt. I look forward to spending some time in the woods prior to meeting up with Melissa next Tuesday and start our travels south.
Hunt them up Dima's!
