Yesterday we left the high mountain town of Atenas to meet up with our Bicycling British Amigos in the capital city of San Jose. Due to the reports that San Jose and its traffic are a bit loco we decided to stay just north and taxi it in for one last night with Adam and Mike before they fly back to England. Needless to say San Jose is quite crazy but we managed to have another very memorable time. Adam and Mike, we had a blast traveling and getting to know you guys. We look forward to meeting up again sometime in the near future. GGGracias!
We got out of bed a bit slow, for reasons mentioned above, and headed for a trip north towards La Fortuna and the volcano Arenal. The dive was absolutely beautiful. The maze of highway leading north from the Pan American Highway lead us through a cloud forest, lush grassy fields and tropical forests. The town of La Fortuna is used like a hub for many of the Eco-tourism activities Costa Rica offers including volcano hikes, rafting, zip lining and nature hikes.
We managed to find a clean and cheap hostel called "Gringo Pete's" for $12 dollars for the night. This is extremely cheap for Costa Rica standards. If you have not traveled to Costa Rica it is a bit of an eye opener. In many ways it is equal or more expensive than the US. However, knowing what the temperature and climate is like in my hometown of Seattle, I would gladly pay double.
